The
GOAL is a non-profit organization dedicated
to providing free medication and healthcare
services to under-privileged people. By doing
this, we hope to further alleviate the problem
of access to care that face so many people
of the world, particularly in developing countries.
*These
countries in the tropics and subtropics include
most of Asia and Africa, and much of Central
and South America. For example, at least 36%
of Bangladesh citizens live in desperate poverty,
living on less than $1 a day. In Cambodia,
at least 30% struggle to eat regular meals,
and in Uganda, a staggering 85% of people
literally live on pennies daily. (Compare
this to the United States where the lowest
poverty line is $9,800 for 1 person). A disproportionate
percentage of this poverty is concentrated
in the sub-Sahara Africa, and as a result,
disease burden tends to be greatest in this
part of the world. Life expectancy and government
spending on healthcare in these countries
is also significantly less.
